| Yes, this is a live recording. I use a Rode NT3 (with battery) driving a Radio Shack Lo-Z to Hi-Z XLR to 1/4" transformer into my old Echo Gina 20 sound card. The microphone is just out of sight (you can see it on some of my other videos) below the 12th fret, maybe 3 inches away, pointing up in between my face and the fretboard. This pretty much always gives a good guitar sound and pointing up at my chin gives a good balance with the voice. I shoot the video on my DV camcorder and bring it into Sony Vegas, align it with the mic audio and mute the camcorder. Then a little compression, a little reverb, maybe a little exciter, and level mastering. Any decent condensor should work pretty well. Expirement around and find what works for you. For my voice and my big Guild, the Rode NT3 works well for me, and just running off a battery makes it very convenient. As far as encoding, I use wmv format out of Vegas, 1 MBs rate 320x240, with 128 kbs 16 bit stereo audio...sounds pretty close to the original. |

| I am interested to know how your sound is recorded so well. Is it pre-recorded or are you singing live? I'm betting it is live but I see no microphone! You are very accomplished. Nice work! |
